Our Cattle
We pride ourselves on high quality Angus and Hereford genetics, which leads to high quality meat, locally sourced and delivered directly to our customers.
The cows and calves graze on grass/alfalfa hay in the winter and thrive in steep rocky grass filled canyons in the spring and summer months.
Calves are born in lower elevations close to the river during the colder months and then travel to higher elevations as summer progresses. This elevation change to cooler weather in the summer months helps ease the stress the warm weather can bring on the calves and cows.
Once our calves reach around 800 lbs and are fully weaned from their mothers, they begin to receive small amounts of barley each day in addition to free choice grass or hay. Our barley is directly sourced from our dry-land farm crops grown on the ridge near the canyon edges. This method helps to enhance the flavor and texture of the meat.
When raising 400+ head of cattle, it is inevitable that a calf will get sick from time to time. When this does happen, we aim to treat their condition in the most effective, humane way-which sometimes includes antibiotic use. This calf is then shipped to a different location and sold on a separate market to ensure our quality and the “natural” endorsement for our beef sold to consumers.
The Ranch
We are located approximately 18 miles north of Nezperce, Idaho in an area known as Central Ridge. It is beautifully nestled between Big Canyon and Little Canyon, in which the creeks both drain into the Clearwater River near Orofino.
We are a 3rd generation family owned and operated cattle ranch and dry-land crop farm. We take great pride in caring for our land and our cattle. We strive to reduce our overall environmental impact by implementing regenerative agricultural practices into our operation.
